Haunting... dangerous and desperate, but also full of courage and hope.' The Guardian

Once I escaped from an orphanage to find my Mum and Dad. Once I saved a girl called Zelda from a burning house. Once I made a Nazi with toothache laugh. My name is Felix. This is my story.

The powerful and moving story of a young boy named Felix who, during the Holocaust, tries to survive and make sense of the world around him. Told with humour and heart, this book offers a unique perspective on one of the darkest chapters in human history and serves as a reminder of the resilience and hope that can be found even in the most dire of circumstances.

'Tension builds swiftly in this wrenching tale . . . poignant.' Publishers Weekly, starred review

Morris Gleitzman

Morris Gleitzman grew up in England and came to Australia when he was sixteen.

After university he worked for ten years as a screenwriter. Then he had a wonderful experience.

He wrote a novel for young people. Now, after 36 books, he's one of Australia's most popular children's authors.

In February 2018 Morris was chosen as the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018-19.

I want to be an ambassador for the fears and hopes and dreams and dreads that young people have as they contemplate and navigate today’s world, and also as they think about the possibilities of their future adult worlds,’ Gleitzman said.

‘Much of my time will be spent championing stories as a medium for young people to engage creatively with those possibilities. Stories reveal themselves in our imaginations, our intellects and our emotions—all places where we work on our own destinies.’

I love this book, my daughter loves this book and my son loves this book. Morris Gleitzman has captures your heart with the innocence of Felix and Zelda. You can't but love the characters as you are taken on their journey during a time we would all like to forget and wish never happened. Once you start reading this book, you won't put it down. Followed by Then and After. We have bought all three and am today purchasing the new addition Soon.
