With his trademark warmth and humour, His Holiness the Dalai Lama shows us how to find happiness despite the challenges of the modern world.

How can we live a life of kindness and compassion? How can we find happiness and meaning, even in the face of terrible suffering and events outside of our control? Through stories, meditations, and in-depth conversations, the Dalai Lama teaches us to identify ways of thinking that lead to personal unhappiness and provides practical advice on how to tackle adversity and cultivate resilience. He shows us how Tibetan Buddhist spiritual values can be applied to alleviate stress and met the demands of our busy lives.

With the Dalai Lama's inspirational wisdom and respected scholar Howard C. Cutler's penetrating mind, the result is a thoughtful approach to dealing with human problems that is both optimistic and realistic, even in the most challenging times.

The Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama was born on July 6, 1935, to a poor farming family in northeastern Tibet. At the age of two he was recognised as the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet, the fourteenth in a succession dating back six hundred years.

At age six he began his lifelong training as a Buddhist monk. Since 1959, he has lived in exile from Tibet in Dharamsala, India. His tireless efforts on behalf of human rights, world peace, and basic human values have brought him international recognition.

He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize and a U.S. Congressional Gold Medal.
