This book was written by the creator of the Lego Ideas Birds set 21301 so anyone who bought that set would be interested in this book.
It is a good book but with a few provisos. Some of the builds are fragile and I suspect that some of the techniques may not be "legal". For instance some parts are precariously clipped at angles (e.g. Northern Rockhopper Penguin, Canary, Common Kingfisher) or simply balanced in place (e.g. Sulphur-Ctrested Cockatoo).
If you have to order parts online please note that there are some part number errors and you may need to use alternate part numbers to find what you need.
The models I have made are:
1. Scarlet Macaw. I love this one. It is a great looking, colourful, robust model. The only change I made was to reduce the width of the stand by 12 studs which looks much better and I added another brick at the bottom the stand for stability.
2. Common Kingfisher. It looks great but is very fragile. The wings are clipped at an angle on the studs (illegal technique?) which means that a slight bump can see the wings collapse.
3. Pink Robin. A a nice robust model but is prone to spinning upside down on the perch. I am going to rework this using Technic parts.
4. Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo. This looks nice but is very fragile. The crest is only balanced in place (illegal technique?) and the slightest bump results in the pieces falling onto the table. I have not figured out any way round this. As for the Pink Robin the perch also needs reworking.
