This book strongly evokes the atmosphere of the Australian outback. It is set in mid-nineteenth-century Victoria and follows the story of two brothers, Paddy and Toby, whose parents are murdered by bushrangers. They want to take responsibility for the family homestead but are tricked out of their heritage. They promise to seek revenge on their parents and reclaim their land. Will they be able to?

It is a good story well told, though really unsubtle and pretty predictable in lots of places. It does hold your attention to the end but there really isn’t much interest in character – the goodies are super-good and the baddies are uber-bad. Do we thing that the heroes will overcome the villains? But it was fun to read.
