Martyrs create space and time. They do so through the actions they take, the fates they suffer, the stories they prompt, the cultural narratives against which they take place, and the retelling of their tales in different places and times. As such martyrs are not once only events but dynamic realities that prompt differing responses and play a variety of roles in various cultural contexts. This volume draws on a wide range of interdisciplinary tools and martyrological treatments in order to explore early and later Christian forms of spacetime production of martyrs that appear in differing historical periods and under varying socio-cultural conditions.
