The global demand for medicinal plants is increasing at a faster pace. The high cost of modern medicines, their non-availability in remote areas, and most importantly, the serious side effects of certain drugs, have increased the demand for traditional medicine. The global market value of pharmaceuticals derived from genetic resources was estimated at US $75,000-150,000 million annually.
