This pack contains 1 copy of Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, Global Edition and 1 copy of Martini's Atlas of the Human Body.

Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology helps students succeed in the challenging A&P course with an easy-to-understand narrative, precise visuals, and steadfast accuracy. With the 11th Edition, the author team draws from recent research exploring how students use and digest visual information to help students use art more effectively to learn A&P.

This book will encourage students to view and consider figures in the textbook, and new narrated videos guide students through complex physiology figures to help them deconstruct and better understand complicated processes.

The Atlas supplements the textbook with an abundant collection of anatomy photographs (194), radiology scans (53), and embryology summaries (21). The anatomy photographs extend the anatomy photographs that appear in the book. The radiology scans help students visualise deep anatomical structures and encourage them to become familiar with the types of images seen in a clinical setting. The embryology summaries depict the developmental origins of major tissues, organs, and body systems.

Features of Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology

Text-art integration

  • NEW! A new emphasis on using art more effectively informs multiple changes to layout and figure organisation, as well as a new system of integrated questions, helping ensure that students view and navigate the art more efficiently and effectively to enhance learning.
  • NEW! SmartArt Videos, narrated by author and anatomical art expert Kevin Petti, walk students through complex physiology figures. The videos help students deconstruct and better understand complicated processes, and provide additional background and detail. SmartArt QR codes appear in the book, providing easy access to the videos. Accompanying assignments are available in Pearson Mastering™ Anatomy & Physiology.
  • NEW! The Art of Teaching A&P: Six Easy Lessons to Improve Student Learning written by author and award-winning teacher Lori Garrett, addresses common challenges students encounter when navigating complex art in textbooks. This handbook-style teaching resource presents each challenge and provides an explanation of the issue, context, and relevant research. Garrett then offers strategies for instructors on how to most effectively overcome these challenges. If they haven’t already received a copy, instructors can request the handbook from their local Pearson Representative.
  • NEW! “Build-Your-Knowledge” features show how each body system influences the others. As students progress through the book, they are able to build their knowledge about how the body systems work together to maintain homeostasis. NEW! Tips & Tools boxes are brief and concrete learning tools that give students simple analogies and easy memory devices to help them remember facts and concepts.
  • 50 Spotlight Figures provide highly visual one- and two-page presentations of tough topics in the book, focus on physiology, and showcase text-art integration for easier reading and studying. Instructors can assign Spotlight Figure Coaching Activities in Pearson Mastering™ Anatomy & Physiology.
  • “Side-by-Side” Figures provide students with multiple views of the same structure, typically pairing an artist’s drawing with a cadaver photograph taken by renowned biomedical photographer Ralph Hutchings. This approach allows students to compare the illustrator’s careful rendering to a photo of the actual structure as it might be seen in the laboratory or operating room.
  • “Step-by-Step” Figures break down multifaceted processes into step-by-step illustrations that coordinate with the authors’ narrative descriptions. These easy-to-follow sequences in the book are also featured on the Instructor’s Resource DVD (IR-DVD) with a “Step Edit” function that makes it easy for instructors to present the material in classroom presentations.
  • “Macro-to-Micro” Figures help students to bridge the gap between familiar and unfamiliar structures of the body by sequencing anatomical views from whole organs or other structures down to their smaller parts. A typical illustration might combine a simple orientation diagram (indicating where an organ or structure is located in the human body) with a large, vivid illustration of that organ or structure, a corresponding sectional view, and a photomicrograph.

Clinical Content includes:

  • UPDATED! Clinical Cases get students motivated for their future careers. Each chapter opens with a story-based Clinical Case related to the chapter content and ends with a Clinical Case Wrap-Up that incorporates deeper content knowledge students will have gained from the chapter. After students complete a self-review using questions (and answers) in the book, they can work through the Book-specific Clinical Case Activities in Pearson Mastering™ Anatomy & Physiology.
  • UPDATED! Clinical Notes appear within every chapter, expand upon topics just discussed, and present diseases and pathologies along with their relationship to normal function. These Clinical Notes relate directly to what students will encounter in their future careers.
  • Related Clinical Terms appear at the end of every chapter and present additional clinical terms and definitions relevant to the chapter topic.
  • Chapter-opening numbered Learning Outcomes drive home the connection between the HAPS-based Learning Outcomes and the associated teaching points.
  • Full-sentence section headings do more than introduce new topics: They state the core fact or concept that will be presented in the section. These numbered chapter headings are directly correlated to the numbered Learning Outcomes printed directly beneath each heading, making it easy for students to “see,” navigate through, and learn the chapter content.
  •  End-of-chapter 3-level learning system helps build student confidence and understanding through a logical progression from factual questions (Level 1) to conceptual problems (Level 2) to analytical exercises (Level 3). The variety of questions also gives instructors flexibility in assigning homework from the text.
