This is a bank of French teaching materials suitable for first year undergraduate learners of French. The course comprises 12 thematic modules, based on different aspects of French life and culture, each containing texts, associated exercises and a grammar section. Within each theme, exercises guide the student's progression from a passive understanding of the lexical or stylistic area covered by a text, to an active knowledge, with the ultimate aim of writing and speaking authentic, accurate French. The grammar sections highlight particular grammar points known to be problematic to learners at this level. This third edition has been revised and updated to include 12 new texts. There have been some changes to the themes, and the accompanying exercises seek to reflect new directions in language learning.
