Contains Spoilers: Keep Reading?

This book is horrible and sad. It tells the story of a boy who basically grows up without his dad, his youngest son looks to his older brother as a father figure but it's not enough. The dad misses their childhood and they're grown up. The son then repeats the cycle of being an absent father with his kids and laughs about it with his dad.

The blurb on the back explains what this book wants to say but it misses the mark by a long long long way. As a father, this book brought me to tears and made me miserable.

Mining and Me resonates with every parent or guardian when they leave a loved one. Being a fellow FIFO Mine worker this book is well written, illustrated perfectly and reminds me of every time I have had to leave for work. It is reassuring to remind myself that other people are away from loved ones and we have this lifestyle to look after our families and give them the best life. Well done to the author for bringing their personal experiences to life for others to enjoy and share with their families.
