John Dougherty

John Dougherty was born in Larne, Northern Ireland, and not many years later they made him go to school - an experience he didn't find entirely enjoyable. Fortunately, the joys of reading helped him through the difficult times. It's therefore not completely surprising that when he grew up he became first a teacher (the nice sort), and then a writer of stories and poetry for children. He also writes songs, some of which he performs with First Draft, a band made up of three children's authors and a bookseller.

He now lives in England with his two children.Thomas Docherty is an author and illustrator of childrens books based in Swansea. His first picture book, The Little Boat was shortlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal, and he has also worked on several books with his wife Helen Docherty, including The Snatchabook, The Knight Who Wouldn't Fight and Pirate Nell's Tale To Tell. His books have been sold around the world and have eben translated into more than 25 languages.

Robin Etherington

Robin Etherington is a children's author who has created graphic novels, comics and puzzle books. He is the writer behind Long Gone Don and Monkey Nuts.

Narinder Dhami

Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton of an Indian father and English mother. She taught in primary schools for nine years but now writes full-time. Her other books include the novelisation of the film Bend It Like Beckham and the recently published Bindi Babes.

Jenni Desmond

Jenni Desmond graduated from a Masters Degree in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art (UK) with distinction and her debut 'Red Cat Blue Cat' won the Cambridgeshire Read it Again! Award in 2012.

Her books have been translated into over a dozen languages since, and in 2015 Desmond was named Best Emerging Talent (Illustrator) at the Junior Design Awards (UK).

In 2016 she was made a Maurice Sendak Fellow and her book 'The Polar Bear' became a 'New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book' of the year.

Her work is admired for its narrative and visual depth, being at once complex and simple. When Jenni is not in her studio, you'll find her cooking, cycling and looking for adventure.

Shane McGowan

Shane McG is a Melbourne-based illustrator whose work appears in publications globally. He writes and illustrates his own picture books for children as well as illustrating for a wide range of authors.

Ros lives in north London with her husband and two sons.
