Yotam Ottolenghi is a cookery writer and chef-patron of the Ottolenghi delis and NOPI restaurant.

He writes a weekly column in the Guardian's Weekend magazine and has published four bestselling cookbooks: Plenty and Plenty More (his collection of vegetarian recipes) and, co-authored with Sami Tamimi, Ottolenghi: The Cookbook and Jerusalem.

I was given this book last Christmas and it felt different even before I opened the cover.



As a vegetarian, I usually browse recipes for new variations on the usual suspects, then cook them my own capable way (I have a large collection of cookbooks!). 'Plenty' is different. I follow Ottolenghi's recipes assiduously because they are deliciously unfamiliar. I have never made so many dishes from the one book, and I haven't made a dud from it, yet. (The aubergine and pomegranate dish on the cover is simple and sensational, the mango/aubergine salad is unexpectedly amazing, the celeriac and lentils with hazelnuts and mint is smashing and so is the caramelised garlic tart). I'm going to try every recipe, because even the seemingly familiar ones take me by surprise in the eating.



And the real seal of approval? My non-vegetarian friends borrow the book frequently. Even the men.



I can't recommend it highly enough.
