Dominating ideologies often problematize the Old Testament. However, preachers who follow Second Isaiah's guidance will experience the Old Testament transforming from a problem to an ally. Second Isaiah attends to power dynamics at work in ancient and contemporary contexts, demonstrates ways of reading older (pre-exilic) texts afresh, and offers rich resources for developing poetic/dialogical proclamations that serve liberating ends. Further, contemporary Jewish-Christian dialogue in Germany shows how a Second Isaiah-informed homiletic helps lead the Church out of its legacies of anti-Jewishness. So too African American homiletic responses to racist domination offer vital guides for lyrical/spiritual preaching that follows Second Isaiah into the breach of systemic and personal need today.
