Co-written by veteran Pacific journalist Michael Field, this is a lively account of Fiji's 2000 coup when a gang of soldiers and failed politicians, led by a businessman called George Speight, burst into Fijis Parliament. It was supposed to be a coup by indigenous Fijians against an ethnic Indian led government. But as Speights gang held a Prime Minister and his government hostage for 56 days the spectacle turned into a savage power struggle pitting Fijians against each other. Speight of Violence reveals what happened in the coup and the bloody military mutiny that followed.
