What if your past didn't define you? What if you could stop worrying about what other people think? What if you could create the life you really wanted? You can. The Courage to Be Happy explains how. Profoundly moving and potentially life-changing, this companion to The Courage to Be Disliked- the bestselling Japanese phenomenon with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide-shares the teachings of Alfred Adler, one of the giants of nineteenth-century philosophy. Told through an illuminating dialogue between a philosopher and a young man, The Courage to Be Happy reveals the path to true happiness, and teaches you how to choose happiness in the chaos and messiness of everyday life. While The Courage to Be Disliked provided the map, this book provides the compass, guiding you on the path to self-discovery and self-love and teaching you how to let go of blame and self-pity, no matter your starting point. Designed to be read on its own or alongside the first book, The Courage to Be Happy reveals a liberating new way to think, empowering you to let go of the past, stop worrying about what you "should" do, and use this freedom to create the life you truly desire. We cannot see the future, because it is filled with infinite possibilities. As The Courage to Be Happy explains, these infinite possibilities are precisely why we can become the master of our own destinies. The choice is yours to make.

Ichiro Kishimi

Ichiro Kishimi was born in Kyoto, where he still lives, in 1956. He has aspired to become a philosopher since his days in high school.

Since 1989, while specialising in Classical Western philosophy, with a special focus on Platonic philosophy, he has researched Adlerian psychology; he writes and lectures on the subject, and provides counselling for “youths” in psychiatric clinics as a certified counsellor and consultant for the Japanese Society of Adlerian Psychology.

He is the translator, into Japanese, of selected writings by Alfred Adler: Kojin Shinrigaku Kogi (The Science of Living) and Hito wa Naze Shinkeisho ni Naru no ka (Problems of Neurosis), and he is the author of Adora Shinrigaku Nyumon (Introduction to Adlerian Psychology), in addition to numerous other books.

Fumitake Koga

Fumitake Koga, an award-winning professional writer and author, was born in 1973. He has released numerous bestselling works of business-related and general non-fiction.

He encountered Adlerian psychology in his late twenties, and was deeply affected by its conventional wisdom-defying ideas.

Thereafter, Koga made numerous visits to Ichiro Kishimi in Kyoto, gleaned from him the essence of Adlerian psychology, and took down the notes for the classical “dialogue format” method of Greek philosophy that is used in this book.
