Continuity and Change in the Bow Valley
Publication Date: 01/01/2004
The Living River explores the flora, fauna, culture and history of the Bow Riverâthrough art, looking at its past, present, and future. It is a story about the river as a source of inspiration for many artists and cultures, and it is a story of a river that is being impinged on by one third of Alberta's population and the demands of industrialization today. Lavishly illustrated, the book features the watercolours of D.B. Nevitt, Ted Godwin, and numerous historical photographs chronicling the river's role through time as source of recreation, sustenance, and transportation. The Bow valley also attracted artists. The work by these artists present individual interpretations of the river and brings personal meaning to the waterway. The Living River will coincide with an exhibit of the same name by Glenbow Museum in conjunction with the Alberta Centenary celebration in 2005.
