The "non-runner" part of the title is slightly misleading - the training plans start at 3km, and you have to be able to run that distance before starting. I had been running 10k before reading this book, and I found the slow, steady increase in distance advised by the book to be great. You do just enough to give you the mental preparedness for a full marathon - the longest run you'll do as training is 30k, which will almost kill you, but that is enough to give you the confidence and toughness to carry on going in the proper race.

This isn't a book about running a fast marathon. This is for people who just want to finish. Follow the advice in here (you don't need to follow all the mental preparation, just take what works for you) and you will finish.
