Dardard ne perd jamais de temps. Tombe amoureux d'une jeune fille apercue au theatre, il suit son fiacre et demande aussitot sa main a son pere, qu'il reveille pour cela a 2h du matin. Apres avoir remballe l'importun, le pere finit par accepter, seduit par l'energie que montre ce jeune homme en affaires comme en amour ... oubliant qu'il avait deja fiance sa fille. Par ailleurs Dardard constate qu'il s'est trompe de fiacre, et par consequent de fille ! Dans cette comedie en un acte les scenes burlesques s'enchainent a un rythme effrene.
