The Martin Ranch is back up and running, with new ranch hands helping Eliza, Christopher and Alice. Adam is hard working but quiet, getting on with his work without saying much to anyone.

When Eliza is introduced to Susanna by a mutual acquaintance, she immediately invites her to the ranch. Susanna has an affinity for animals and is thrilled at the invitation.
