No other country invaded by the Axis powers during World War II was so historically disunited as Yugoslavia, nor occupied by so many different armies. The occupation gave rise to ceaseless guerrilla warfare both against the occupiers and between internal forces divided by religion and ideology. This book describes the major Yugoslav belligerent forces involved: the royal army that resisted the 1941 invasion, and its exiled remnants; the royalist Chetnik guerrilla movement; and the Communist Partisans who, with Allied support, finally liberated Yugoslavia. Including rare photos, detailed new artwork and insignia charts, this fascinating new study brings the hard-fought struggle of the resisting Yugoslav forces to life. Book jacket.
