Zero Trust is the first security model designed to effectively adapt to the complexity and risks of tomorrow's environments, embrace hybrid workplaces, and protect people, devices, apps, and data wherever they are. Now, there's a comprehensive guide for architects, engineers, and all technical professionals who want to move from Zero Trust theory to implementation and operation. In Zero Trust Architecture, leading Cisco experts bring clarity, vision, practical definitions, and real-world expertise to a space that's been overwhelmed with hype. The authors explain why Zero Trust identity-based models can increase flexibility, simplify operations, and bring intuitive context to the implementation and management of least privilege security. Then, building on Cisco's own model, they systematically illuminate methodologies, supporting technologies, and integrations required by any Zero Trust identity-based model. Through real-world experiences and case study examples, you'll learn what questions to ask, how to start planning, what exists today, what components still must evolve, and how to drive value in the short-term as you journey towards Zero Trust. Explore Zero Trust's foundations, drivers, foundational capabilities, and implementation journey, Bring together stakeholders to determine what Zero Trust implementation will require, and locate critical organizational capabilities, Review Zero Trust's pillars: policy overlays, an identity-led approach, vulnerability management, access control, and visibility into control and data planes, Adapt a Zero Trust Reference Architecture to your campuses, branches, core network, WANs, and cloud service areas, Use enclaves to provide common security policies to groups of assets, Address industry and regulatory requirements in design, timelines, and implementation plans, Develop a successful segmentation plan, and overcome common challenges to implementation, Plan for effective Zero Trust enforcement and operations
