In a time when science and technology are advancing at an incredible pace, the dream of extending human life is closer than ever. The book "AI and the Future of Longevity: From Cellular Senescence to Supercentenarians" explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing our understanding of aging, cancer, and longevity. From uncovering the secrets of cellular aging to speeding up drug discovery and advancing regenerative medicine, AI is giving scientists the tools to slow aging, prevent diseases, and even reverse some aspects of biological decline.
At the core of human aging lies a complex web of cellular processes: telomere shortening, genomic instability, and the buildup of senescent cells that drive tissue dysfunction and chronic inflammation. These same processes that lead to aging are also tightly linked to cancer, as the mechanisms meant to suppress damaged cells can, paradoxically, contribute to malignancy. AI is helping researchers untangle these intricate relationships, revealing hidden patterns in vast datasets that would take humans years to decode.
Blending biology, technology, and ethics, the book dives into both the possibilities and the challenges of reshaping human health. It raises important questions: How far should we go in altering the aging process? Can we extend life while preserving its quality? This isn't just a story of scientific discovery, it's a look at a future where living well past hundred could become a reality.
With each chapter, readers are taken on a journey through the latest research and innovations, offering a hopeful glimpse of what lies ahead. Written for science outreach and awareness, the book encourages readers to imagine a world where aging is no longer an inevitability but a condition we can understand, manage, and perhaps even overcome.
Basudha Banerjee, the author of "AI and the Future of Longevity: From Cellular Senescence to Supercentenarians", is a dedicated researcher focusing on cancer biology, stem cell research, and regenerative medicine. She has worked extensively on biomaterial-enriched scaffolds for tissue regeneration and chemoresistance in cancer and is currently working at CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), New Delhi. Actively engaged in the scientific community, she has presented her work at international conferences and held leadership roles in academic forums. Passionate about advancing regenerative medicine, Basudha remains committed to exploring innovative solutions in regenerative medicine and biomedical research.
