Authorized Images: Famous Authors Seen Through Antique and Vintage Postcards
Caedmon, Geoffrey Chaucer, John Milton, John Bunyan:
Any college level introduction to English literature is highly likely to include study of these four pillars of the canon. Likenesses of Caedmon are non-existent so he is known in postcards almost exclusively by a huge Celtic cross in Whitby, England. No sure portrait of Chaucer exists either, but hos fame as a poet became so great after his death that a few ancient artists attempted his depiction. Milton is most often represented on postcards via pictures of one of his residences which still stands. In contrast, Bunyan can be associated with several sites, all of which are well interpreted by a multitude of antique imagery fully reproduced in this volume.
