Children in foster care represent the most vulnerable children in our society. Research shows they are at significantly greater risk for homelessness, unemployment, lower academic achievement, and are particularly vulnerable to trafficking due to their traumatic past. Studies show that only 50% will earn a high school diploma by the time they reach the age of 21, and less than 10% will earn a bachelor's degree, even though the majority desire a four-year degree. These statistics, however, do not provide the entire story; the voices of those living these experiences are missing. This book shares the accounts of those pursuing post-secondary education who lived in foster care. What propels them? What struggles do they encounter on this journey? This book shares their stories of trauma and pain intertwined with hope and joy. This small group is Braving the Dark to create their future. 219 pages.
