This novel grapples with Human Trafficking, our contemporary form of slavery on a global scale. The characters draw us into a plot that connects many dots on a journey of discovery on several levels. Barrett Sherman is sometimes the narrator. He and his wife, Adrienne, are going through a difficult phase in their marriage. He is readily vulnerable to the charms of Sabrina, an exotic "working woman", who lures him into a frightening reality. He learns that Sabrina is part of a network that struggles to undermine the exploitation of women and children. Several themes interact in a surprising mixture. Middle class family life, true romance, political corruption, and global economics are entwined in this revealing novel that, unfortunately, is anchored in actual facts.
