Donato was just another orphan in Venice before he joined a commedia d'ell arte troupe.  He soon becomes the best Harlequin the city has ever seen. On stage, he is dazzling but after the performance he retreats into grief and avoids the rest of the company.

Floria, who plays Columbine, will not be avoided.  She is brilliant, beautiful and impossible.  Self willed and stubborn, she is magic on stage.
