About Mental and Substance Use Disorders

"Risks to health do not occur in isolation. The chain of events leading to an adverse health outcome includes both proximal and distal causes – proximal factors act directly or almost directly to cause disease, and distal causes are further back in the causal chain and act via a number of intermediary causes" World Health Organization. The world health report 2002 - Reducing risks, promoting healthy life. Geneva, Switzerland: WHO; 2002

About the book

The Present study is an attempt to provide a comprehensive view of all the dimensions (socio-economic and mental health system) needed for ameliorating mental well-being of people. One major and unique feature of the book is that it uses "Partial Least Square" approach in assessing the relative role of the prominent structural determinants of mental and substance use disorders. While the study largely covers OECD countries, attempt is also made to include information on the prevalence of mental and substance use disorders in BRICS (India, China, Brazil, Russia and South Africa) countries.
