How do you teach your baby or young child colors and shapes?

Maybe you show a picture of a simple Green Shirt Button point to it and say "green".

You child now has many choices going on that you don't think about as an adult.

There is a circle, thickness, 4 small circles, 4 small holes, the overall button itself, your finger, the action of you pointing, and the color of the button. If you are a baby or young child this can be very confusing trying to figure out which of the above represents the word sound "green" that's coming out of this big persons mouth .

Take other items that are more complex than a button and it is even more so confusing.
