For as long as she can remember, eleven-year-old Lulu has been considered odd by the other kids in her small town of Merryville. No matter how hard she tries, nothing turns out the way she wants it to. She even has to bribe kids to come to her birthday party, including her fake best friend.

Lulu turns to her pets for comfort but they're not enough to fill the hole in her heart and she is desperate for change. When something unexpected happens on Halloween night, Lulu initiates a plan to reinvent herself, molding herself into the type of girl others expect.

Her plan works and she becomes a lot more popular but she's not as happy as she thought she would be. Not wanting to go back to the way things were before, she ignores her feelings until she meets a mysterious stranger whose influence impacts her in ways she could never imagine.
