Memories from Southern Africa Book 2: This picture book is the second of 7 which cover some touring - mostly guided - mostly of South Africa, but a trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and a safari excursion in Botswana. We were driven along the coast to Tsitsikama National Park from Port Elizabeth. The drive was to eventually reach Cape Town and was essentially following the famed Garden Route. The above national park is at the mouth of the Storm’s River and we had a chance to walk to it. We came across a Bushbuck on the entrance drive which stopped just so we could get nice photographs! The coast here was very attractive and the café had a population of ‘Dassies’ or Rock Hyraxes in residence. A Greater double-collared sunbird and Red Hot Poker flowers were abundant (great contrast between the red flowers and the blue sea as a backdrop). After that we moved on to Plettenberg Bay and a boat cruise to see some Brown Fur Seals and Cape Cormorants on an island. We continued with the drive and stopped at a headland with wonderful views of the coastline to the east and dolphins in the waves. Back in Plettenberg Bay a visit to a flight aviary was a great hit with many very colourful birds under the huge netted area. Back to Knysna for a sunset boat trip on the Knysna River which took us close to the mouth of the river. The following day saw us drive further west to another ocean lookout, complete with dolphins in the waves! We left the coast at that point and drove inland to visit some wonderful limestone caves, an animal park (with Cheetah) and finished this book with a visit to an Ostrich Farm, including watching an Ostrich race, complete with jockeys. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. There are 102 still images and accompanying pages of minimal description. The original photographs (taken by the author, an amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit.
