The essays collected here celebrate mark the distinguished career of Professor W. Mark Ormrod, reflecting the vibrancy and range of his scholarship on the structures, personalities and culture of ruling late medieval England. Encompassing political, administrative, Church and social history, the volume focusses on three main themes: monarchy, state and political culture. For the first, it explores Edward III's reactions to the deaths of his kinfolk and cases of political defamation across the fourteenth century. The workings of the "state" are examined through studies of tax and ecclesiastical records, the Court of Chivalry, fifteenth-century legislation, and the working practicesof the privy seal clerk, Thomas Hoccleve. Finally, separate discussions of collegiate statutes and the household ordinances of Cecily, duchess of York consider the political culture of regulation and code-making.

Helen Lacey

Helen Lacey grew up reading Black Beauty, Anne of Green Gables and Little House on The Prairie. These childhood classics inspired her to write her first book when she was seven years old, a story about a girl and her horse. At eleven, she read her first Mills & Boon and immediately knew she wanted to write romances.

Her parent's love of travel meant she saw much of the world in those early years and she feels fortunate to have had a diverse and interesting education over several continents. Continuing to write into her teens and twenties with the dream of one day being a published author, it was a few years and several careers later when she got the "call" from our North American office.

She loves writing about tortured heroes, both cowboys and CEO's, and heroine's who finally get the love of the man of their dreams. When she's not writing she works part time in a bridal shop, where she gets to meet fascinating people, some of whom might one day end up being in one of her books.

From Welsh parents and a large family, she lives on the east coast of Australia in a small seaside town at the southern most point of The Great Barrier Reef, with her wonderfully supportive husband, many horses and three spoiled dogs. Her debut book, Made for Marriage, is out now in the Blush series, and will be followed by another book in early 2013. Helen loves to hear from readers so be sure to visit her website today!
