INSIDE HISTORY BONUS
Alecia Beth Moore, better known by her stage name Pink, was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, on September 8, 1979, to James and Judith Moore. Her father was an insurance salesman, and her mother was a nurse who is of Jewish origin. Pink was born healthy, but she struggled with asthma from an early age and it followed her throughout her early years.
Pink trained in competitive gymnastics from the age of four to twelve after showing potential as a kid. She started pursuing her love of music while attending Central Bucks High School West. Pink was disappointed when her first band, Middleground, broke up after a defeat in a Battle of the Bands competition. Pink had joined the band in high school.
Pink started creating songs as a teenager to communicate her feelings, using her own experiences as inspiration. Her mother saw the depth and even sad subjects in her reflective songs and became interested in her.
When Pink was fourteen years old, she started doing shows in Philadelphia bars and took on the stage moniker "Pink." Over the years, she has provided many theories about the origins of her moniker. Pink's ability and perseverance got her an audition for the all-female group Basic Instinct, and she made the lineup despite the confusion over her stage name. Nevertheless, the group broke up before putting out any music.
