Dear colleagues.
After conducting thorough research and spending several days gathering reliable and current evidence, I collaborated with my highly skilled and enthusiastic coauthors, PharmDs Dua’a Nayef Suleiman Alqhaiwi and Arwa Abed Alrahman Alashqar, to publish this eBook. The eBook primarily emphasises the optimisation of insulin dosage to achieve the highest level of cost-effectiveness and safety for patients with diabetes. In this eBook titled "PROFESSIONALISM IN INSULIN DOSING," we extensively cover various topics related to insulin, such as insulin pharmacology, insulin pharmacotherapy, and insulin pharmacokinetics/dynamics. The main focus is on understanding insulin dosing strategies and methods that ensure the best balance between cost-effectiveness and safety for both ambulatory and hospitalised hyperglycemic patients.
We conduct an initial search in Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar to find all relevant evidence regarding insulin dosing. The search is limited to articles published from 2020 to April 2024. Our goal is to strike a balance between both the precision and sensitivity of our search methods in order to gather the most up-to-date and relevant evidence-based knowledge. In order to meet the needs of our target audience, which includes medical, surgical, clinical pharmacy, pharmacological consultants, specialists, mentors, residents, and students, we have created comprehensive materials on insulin dosing.
These materials consist of an introduction, brainstorming patients' case studies, and conclusion sections, as well as 30 additional sections on related topics. In total, there are 33 chapters in our materials. The following 30 sections are included in the same sequential order: Importance Of Professionalism In Insulin Dosing, Understanding Diabetes Mellitus, Insulin Therapy For Diabetes Mellitus, Factors Affecting Insulin Dosing, Role Of Healthcare Professionals In Insulin Dosing, Communication And Collaboration In Insulin Dosing, Patient Education And Empowerment, Individualized Insulin Dosing Plans, Monitoring And Adjusting Insulin Doses, Addressing Challenges In Insulin Dosing, Preventing Medication Errors In Insulin Dosing, Ethical Considerations In Insulin Dosing, Legal And Regulatory Aspects Of Insulin Dosing, Quality Assurance In Insulin Dosing, Continuous Professional Development In Insulin Dosing, Research And Innovation In Insulin Dosing, Interprofessional Collaboration In Insulin Dosing, Cultural Sensitivity In Insulin Dosing, Psychological And Emotional Support In Insulin Dosing, Addressing Health Disparities In Insulin Dosing, Pediatric Insulin Dosing Considerations, Geriatric Insulin Dosing Considerations, Insulin Dosing In Pregnancy And Gestational Diabetes, Insulin Dosing In Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Insulin Dosing In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Insulin Dosing In Insulin Pump Therapy, Insulin Dosing In Intensive Care Units, Insulin Dosing In Hospitalized Patients, Insulin Dosing In Outpatient Settings, And Future Directions In Insulin Dosing.
Each of the mentioned chapters is composed of six sections arranged in a sequential manner: Guiding Key Points, Core Contents, Major Key Finding and Practical Insights, Discussion, MCQ with Guiding Answers, and References. The "MCQs with Guiding Answer" section in each of the 33 aforementioned chapters contains an average of approximately 16 multiple-choice questions (ranging from 5 to 32 MCQs). Importantly, each multiple-choice question (MCQ) is accompanied by a guiding answer that has been extracted from the chapter. This eBook release includes a total of 774 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) along with their corresponding Guiding Answers.
The final chapter of this eBook, titled "Brainstorming Patients' Case Studies with Thorough and Systemically Organised Discussion," consists of a total of 37 lengthy patients' case studies divided into 11 sections; Postprandial Glucose Management In Diabetes, Carbohydrate Ratio And Insulin Dosing In Patients: An Analysis Of Caloric Drift, Basal Insulin Dosing Adjustment In Diabetes Patients, Healthcare Skills And Complications In Insulin Care For Patients, Guidelines For Insulin Dosing In Endocrinology, Complexity Of Insulin Regimens In High-Risk Inpatients, Diabetes In Children, Factors Affecting Insulin Dosing In Patients, Pregnancy And Adjusting Insulin Requirement In Patients, Flexible Insulin Regimens And Carbohydrate Counting In Patient, Early Initiation Of Insulin Therapy In Patients With Oral Antihyperglycemic Agents, Managing Hyperglycemia In Critically Ill Patients: And Accurate Insulin Administration. It is important to mention that these referenced case studies of constructed patients are backed by comprehensive discussions of key points.
