This book is though as a highly practical guide for those who want to learn designing digital circuits using the FPGA.

The material of this book will introduce the readers to the many issues involved in the design of digital circuits. The numerous projects illustrate the key approaches of implementing designs and show how complex circuits can be modelled by a SystemVerilog code and implemented in hardware. This book also covers the topics concerning the choice of an FPGA development board and examining the on-board hardware resources, creating and compiling projects, programming the FPGA, etc.

The material of this book assumes that the readers have a general understanding of the FPGAs and the basic concepts of programmable logic. For designing digital circuits, we will use the Intel Quartus® Prime 16.1 Light Edition software also referred to as the Quartus® Prime Design Suite running in Windows 10, although Intel Quartus will run on earlier versions of Windows. You can download the software from the Intel website (www.altera.com/download) and install it on your computer.

The designs described in this book were tested on the development board equipped with the Cyclone IV FPGA. Each design is accompanied by a brief description which helps to make things clear and allows the readers to easily improve the design.
