Shakespeare in the Parking Lot is an anthology of the three plays author and screenwriter Peter Fenton developed during his undergraduate years at Wheaton College. It's a literary collection meant to be a fun night of three adventure comedy plays performed back-to-back-to-back:
- Good Knight and Goodbye: A legendary knight is sent on a quest for the princess's hand in marriage but finds himself falling in love with the king's humble messenger while an evil threat lurks beneath his nose.
- The Thousand-Year Rose: Three bickering witches conspire to find a lost treasure, which will only appear for a pure heart. They decide to kidnap the sassy college intern who is also hunting for the treasure.
- See Amid the Winter Snow: The simple love story of the Claus family publicist and a village schoolteacher is threatened when a blackmail scandal breaks in Santa's Workshop during Mrs. Claus's campaign for Mayor of the North Pole.
The plays themselves have a distinct tone and style that is written for the "inner child" rather than for children in general, with wacky worlds and colorful characters inspired by Disney and Nintendo paired with the cutting wit and humor of Arrested Development. Throughout the book, Fenton reflects in 2021 through a series of essays detailing the writing process and personal growth tied to each play.
