Amory Lorrimer needs money to help her family, so she takes a position as secretary at the Briarcliffe mansion. The Whitneys seem relatively untouched by the depression, often hosting house parties, and it is into the midst of one of these that Amory arrives. Mrs. Whitney's nephew Gareth is visiting and becomes Amory's instant friend, despite the social gap. But he is a daredevil pilot and soon off on a new adventure. Amory’s heart goes with him, praying for his return, especially after his plane is reported missing.
