The Skyline anthologies, now in their seventh year, are dedicated to showcasing Central Virginia writers, both in fiction and nonfiction prose and in poetry. These anthologies, like the four biennial Blue Ridge Anthology collections that preceded the Skyline anthologies, have at their base the placing works in the annual juried writing contest of the Blue Ridge Writers chapter of the Virginia Writers Club.
The VWC, one of the oldest writing clubs in the United States, recently celebrated the hundredth anniversary of its 1918 founding. The Blue Ridge Writers, originally inaugurated as a chapter of the VWC in 1991, under the title of the Charlottesville Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary in 2021. The club’s title was changed in 2008 to acknowledge that the region covered by the chapter was several Virginia counties centered on the northern section of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
To celebrate the placing authors in the BRW writing contest over the last fifteen years, the length of time that records are available, and to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the central Virginia club, the 2020 and 2021 editions of Skyline are being dedicated to republishing placing works in the contest during that period.
Skyline 2020 includes works by multiple winners in the last fifteen years at the first- and second-place levels. Skyline 2021 will include single placings at the first and second spots and all available third-place works.
A total of sixty-five works by twenty-two authors qualified for Skyline 2020. Of these, permissions for republishing were received for a total of fifty-nine works by nineteen authors.
