Stephen Lauren Boss, who was born in Montgomery, Alabama, got his moniker as a young child because he had trouble sitting still. After graduating from Lee High School in Montgomery in 2000, he continued his education by taking dance performance courses at Chapman University and Southern Union State Community College.
Stephen "tWitch" Boss, a longstanding and adored dancing DJ on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and a previous participant in the talent competition "So You Think You Can Dance," passed away at the age of 40.
A statement from his wife, Allison Holker Boss, on Wednesday, confirmed his passing.
The 40-year-old dancer was discovered on Tuesday, only a 14-minute walk from his house, in the bathtub of his motel room at the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California.
At about 11:20 a.m. local time, officers from the West Valley Division had responded to a call from the hotel.
"However, when he came the night before with only a little overnight bag," staff at the motel told TMZ on Wednesday that he did not seem "visibly" disturbed.
Boss' wife, Allison Holker, called the police that morning after seeing her husband had left their house without his automobile, which was unusual for him.
"I have to tell you that my husband Stephen has left us, with the heaviest of hearts," Holker began her statement to People. Every space Stephen entered was illuminated by him.
"We will always reserve the last dance for you," she said, adding, "Stephen, we love you and miss you."
Just five years before he passed away, the DJ talked about overcoming obstacles.
His wife and three children have survived him.
