Robert Bruce was crowned king of Scotland on March 27th in 1306. He was however deposed in 1307 by king Edward of England. Bruce was forced to flee to the little island of Rathlin. While there, he continued to recruit followers and in less than two years, he liberated Scotland from the British. He again defeated the British army in a popular battle of Bennockburn which led to the independence of Scotland in 1328. His Popular quotation was, "If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again."
