A Definition of Self-Esteem Self-esteem is a strong force within each of us. It entails far more than the natural sense of self-worth that is allegedly our human inheritance — the spark that we as psychotherapists or instructors want to instill in individuals we deal with. That spark is merely a prelude to self-esteem. As you begin to read this book, I want you to understand exactly what I mean by "self-esteem." Many definitions are erroneous, less strong, or less useful in my opinion than the one I suggest.
