The Children's Crusade is the story of a political campaign to raise taxes to fix public schools in a town in California. It is a fictional story written as a screen play that is based on a real campaign that took place in Lancaster, CA in spring 1990. In this campaign when funding runs short and apathetic teachers and parents fail to provide the leadership and help they should, the students step up to fill the void. Using a unique strategy developed by an outside consultant firm, an idealistic on site field coordinator leads the students and a small group of adults to put together a real campaign. After many twists and turns through several weeks of crisis, failures, triumphs, and the unexpected, the campaign reaches a climax on election night when the votes are counted.
