The delightful, expeditionary trek continues - this time through “The Civilized Jungle,” Tropical Plants, Facts & Fun (Volume II).” Once again, in an uncomplicated, simply written - often with droll, tongue firmly in cheek levity and an occasional, personal, acerbic stab at contemporary society, the “modern” world out of control political correctness and the body politic - Tommy introduces us to an array of his “plant pals” - all of which flourish in his spectacular, multi-terraced, tropical plant gardens in Manzanillo, Mexico. All are presented via colorful and – sometimes, almost lyrical - descriptions, accompanied by stunningly beautiful photographs. He writes in a way that allows us too easily, yet fully, appreciate each plant’s individual, unique character - as Tommy says - plant foibles! This is an easy - and fun - way to expand one’s awareness of some of Nature’s most spectacular creations - the vegetation of the semi-tropics and tropics. Like that which he so, earlier, effectively wrote about Iraq or from various natural disaster sites, he has striven to reach the soul of the subject and help his readership better understand and appreciate the subject.
