Step into the storied world of The House of the Wolfings, William Morris’s seminal work of epic historical fantasy that paved the way for modern medieval-inspired fiction. In this richly woven tale—steeped in Norse mythology and set against the looming presence of Roman conquest—the proud Wolfing clan fights to defend their homeland near the shadowy depths of Mirkwood.

At the heart of the story stands Thiodolf, a fierce warrior torn between love and duty, and the ethereal Wood-Sun, whose mystical powers hold the key to the Wolfings’ fate. Witness haunting prophecies, clan loyalties tested by war, and unforgettable moments of valor as the Germanic tribes band together to resist a relentless imperial force. This illustrated edition features ten newly crafted images—each capturing pivotal events from Thiodolf’s stirring rallies in the Wolfing Hall to the final clash in a moonlit valley.

Perfect for fans of classic fantasy epics, mythic romance, and historical adventure, The House of the Wolfings invites readers to discover why William Morris is heralded as a founding influence on the fantasy genre. Whether you’re an admirer of 19th-century fantasy pioneers or simply crave a timeless, heroic saga, this updated edition delivers a captivating blend of legend, prophecy, and the enduring power of courage.

William Morris

William Morris (1834-1896) was one of the most influential thinkers and artists of his time. At Oxford, with the painter Burne-Jones, he fell under the influence of Ruskin and Rossetti.

Preoccupied with the poverty of modern design he taught himself at least thirteen crafts and founded his own design firm, Morris & Co.

In the late 1870s he became active in political and environmentalist matters and converted to socialism in 1883, helping to found the Socialist League a year later.
