Reality was, to the Ancient Egyptians, a multi-layered universe in which deities would merge, creating complicated relationships.
Isis was no different.
Goddess of motherhood, fertility, nature, and magic. First daughter of Geb and Nut. Wife and sister of Osiris (Egyptian God of nature, order and discipline). Mother of Horus (God of the sky).
When her husband Osiris was murdered by Set, Isis used her magical healing powers to restore his body to life after she gathered the body parts that had been strewn about the earth by Set.
Isis is depicted in Egyptian art as a woman wearing a long sheath dress with the horns of a cow on her head, with a solar disc between them.
The influences and qualities of the Egyptian Pantheon are reflected in the cards of the Major Arcana. There are many Tarot decks available, but the mystic symbology remains, to a large extent, the same. Isis is represented in the Tarot by the 2nd card of the Major Arcana: The High Priestess. A woman sits betwixt two columns, one white one black. At her feet, the Moon. Above her, 12 stars. In one hand, an unopened scroll.
Isis was above all things a goddess of the moon.
