A masterfully written novel which is sure to keep you hooked from the first, hectic scene. Intense and mysterious, The Secret of Mount Trolla is a rare gem in the genre. Being a huge fan of thrillers, there aren't that many books which can successfully keep me in suspense for their entirety- this is one of the few which can. I have an uncanny ability to guess the twists in these kinds of story, I suppose it comes with the territory of having read so many. Here though, I found myself genuinely shocked, which is a great feeling! Can't recommend this enough!

Where do I start? The Secret of Mount Trolla was nothing like I expected and that was the best possible outcome when it comes to a mystery thriller. In case you haven’t read the synopsis, The Secret of Mount Trolla begins at the start of a plane wreckage, we meet Espen--our protagonist--in the midst of the chaos attempting to convince the copilot to jump off the plane with him. Espen jumps out of the plane with a parachute and finds himself in the icy woods with no form of contact with civilization.

I initially thought this short story would be similar to the middle-grade book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, revolving around surviving the wilderness with only a few resources--not to mention Espen does happen to find a hatchet--a rusty one. Mount Trolla however was nothing like that, it was a thriller that constantly made me question whether Espen was actually experiencing what he thought or if it was all in his head or a sort of “purgatory” like he mentioned.

It’s quite difficult to write about this thriller without any spoilers; however, just know that this story involves a cabin with a strange woman who brings back memories for Espen as well as the discussion of darkness and what being in the dark can do to your imagination. There are also two plot twists and reveals that I could not have predicted. From the very beginning to the last lines you find yourself questioning Espen’s sanity and even though there are some gruesome scenes, nothing will make you set this story down.

This short story was thrilling and a perfect Halloween read for me! There were animals, skulls, hooded figures and the darkest darkness. If you enjoy mystery, definitely pick this up! Do be aware that there are gruesome scenes and a scene of sexual abuse.

I am a voracious reader and I particularly love black horror literature.
Among many average stories, ‘’The secret of Mount-Trolla’’ definitely stands out.
You notice the level of writing from the first pages, very smooth, elegant, funny, cruel and bloody, with an extensive vocabulary and detailed descriptions.
From the first chapters you are catapulted on a mountain in survival mode.
in the story nothing is missing: love, jealousy, betrayal, hallucinations, morbid pain and violence.
The wrecks of a crashed plane, the mountain witch, ravenous wolves ...... truly brilliant...
I really loved and appreciated the story, especially the engaging type of writing used by Tristan Barr.
I immediately became a fun of him.
The edition of the e-book is super accurate, from the beautiful cover to the font, and the drawings at the beginning of the chapter.
I hope to read more of this author as soon as possible.
I absolutely recommend reading this book, you will not regret it!!
