The gripping true story of how Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay brought Melanie Road’s murderer to justice.

BATH, 1984

Jean Road, a 49-year-old mother of three, awakens to news that her daughter Melanie has been murdered in a nearby street as she walked home from a club in the early hours.

Britain’s biggest manhunt begins. A trail of blood is found leading away from the scene. It’s a rare blood type. But despite a year-long inquiry and 94 arrests, the case is wound down. No one is charged with Melanie’s murder.

AVON & SOMERSET POLICE HQ, 2009

Detective Sergeant Julie Mackay, a 41-year-old single mother of three who has been overlooked for promotion for years, transfers to the Cold Case Unit. She unearths a file from the original inquiry and becomes hooked by the details: the rare blood type, Bath on a summer’s night, the investigative wrong turns … She takes on the case, and with the help of Melanie’s inspirational mother works tirelessly to rebuild it.

This is the true story of how she did it.

Robert Murphy

Slow talkin’ Texan Robert Murphy is the down to earth cowboy that Australia has grown to love. Born in Clovis New Mexico to a Texan cattle rancher father, Robert spent his youth riding goats, sheep, horses, steers and hunting and fishing. He first learned to cook from catching/hunting his own food and cooking in the outdoors. Before long Robert moved to Texas to study at college, going on to work as everything from a cattle rancher to a horse trainer, demolition worker to picture framer. He’s been a pilot and a professional outdoorsman, led hunting tours through Texas and worked as a ranch guide. His skills also extend to shooting, tracking and survival.

He’s even worked as a professional shooter for the Texas Wild Game co-operative. In short, he’ll give anything a go. The native Texan, who has called Australia home for some 23 years, and who now resides on many acres in the Blue Mountains, stole the spotlight in My Kitchen Rules with his tall tales and his one-liners and together with daughter Lynzey, worked his way into Australian audiences’ hearts. Robert, who just loves a chat, and loves to cook, showed something different, his very own real Texan flavour and his love of BBQ.

He is passionate about sharing the recipes of his childhood, a Tex-Mex mix becoming increasingly popular on menus. You can’t help but fall in love with Robert and his trademark moustache and authentic cowboy garb. This is Robert ‘Texas’ Murphy’s first book.
