What is War Pigeon
Since ancient times, homing pigeons have been essential to the conduct of war. As a result of their excellent homing ability, speed, and altitude, they were frequently utilized as messengers by the military. During World War I and World War II, carrier pigeons of the Racing Homer breed were utilized to transport messages. The Dickin Medal was awarded to a total of 32 of these pigeons for their service delivering messages. Among the 32 medals that have been bestowed upon pigeons in recognition of their contributions to the preservation of human life, the Croix de Guerre, which was bestowed upon Cher Ami, and the Dickin Medal, which was bestowed upon the doves G.I. Joe and Paddy, are just two examples.
