The dynamics of multiphase flow is a science of fluid mechanics identified within the second half of the 20th century. In this period, recognition of fundamental concepts, definitive experiments, basic instrumentation for measurements, general formulations and computational methods have undergone rapid progress. Its evolution into a science has not followed an organized pattern, rather its support came under various applications: propulsion, chemical processing, pollution control, coal conversion, combustion, and nuclear power.
