This volume deals with the rare survival of a large set of commercial accounts made by the Somerset clothier James Ashe of Westcombe, and two of his sons, Edward and Jonathan Ashe, who became merchants in London. The accounts span the period from 1627-1665. They record James Ashes cloth production at Westcombe before the Civil War, and his sons trade in London from the 1640s to the Great Plague. Remarkably, the account books cover the whole period without a break. Read in association with other surviving documents, such as conveyances, wills and inventories, they provide rich insights into the lives of an exceptional family --
