Volume 3 is part of a monumental work that combines studies of the Manhattan neighborhood as it became a center of Jewish immigration in the 1880s till the present when it is still home to a few Jewish cultural institutions and many Jewish movers and shakers from Phillip Glass to John Zorn to Judith Malina. Volume 3 looks at such topics as disreputable Jews, including big-time gangsters and druggies; artists, such as Boris Lurie and Seth Tobocman; and those in theater, including a look at the golden age of the Yiddish stage.
