* The Lazarus Effect is Hawa's first novel and was originally published by Kwela Books in South Africa.
* It was long-listed for the Wole Soyinka Prize for African writers and shortlisted for both the Sunday Times Literary Prize for Fiction and the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize for Creative Writing.
* A second Vee Johnson novel ('The Score') is due for publication in the US & Canada in 2018. Hawa is currently working on the third book in the Vee Johnson series.
* Hawa is one of the very few black African women writing crime and has been a guest at literary festivals in the UK, Nigeria and South Africa.
